Dear HGS Families,

The School Year has started off beautifully. Throughout the building, you can see learning, hear laughter, and feel love and caring. Teachers have started introducing curriculum while building classroom communities where each learner can thrive. Morning arrival and afternoon dismissal are going very smoothly. Thank you to everyone for making this so.

Here are some important items to note:

➢ Birthday Celebrations - Birthdays are special, and we recognize that parents often want to send something in to help acknowledge their child's birthday. This year, we encourage non-edible treats, or if you send in edible items, please make sure that they are store-bought/individually wrapped items. Teachers will pass out to the class. Unfortunately, students will not be able to pass items out around the school this year. Additionally, during morning announcements, students who have birthdays will be recognized. Students that have a birthday during the summer months, July and August, will have their half-birthdays announced in January and February, respectively.

➢ Curriculum Night: September 23 from 6 PM - 8 PM - We will be holding this informational night in the building. Please remember that at the elementary school level, masks are required. Teachers will offer two sessions at 6 PM and 7 PM so that you can choose which one you attend. Teachers will provide an overview of the year, their classroom expectations, and more during these sessions. This is a time for general information and will be approximately 30 minutes in length. Should you have specific questions pertaining to your child, please reach out to your child's teacher. In addition, specialists, Case Managers, and other staff members will be located throughout the building to provide you information about their classrooms as well as time for Q&A.

General Reminders:

➢ Fall is fast approaching, and we want all our students to enjoy recess. Please have your child dress accordingly - layers tend to work well as temperatures fluctuate.

➢ Refillable water bottles help with hydration & are good for the Earth! We have water bottle filling stations located throughout the school to meet hydration needs.

➢ Label belongings - we are trying to minimize items in lost and found this year. Please be sure to label all items, especially lunch boxes, sweatshirts and jackets, and water bottles.

➢ Changes in dismissal - all requests to change dismissal plans should be made in writing when possible. Last-minute changes need to be called into the main office, preferably before 2:00. Thank you so much for being so cooperative.

➢ Fridays – Every Friday we will have a dress theme for students and teachers. Students and teachers are not mandated to participate. This Friday, 9/3 is Disney Day, wear your favorite Disney clothing.

The word of the month is Responsibility. Our classroom teachers and school counselor Mrs. Perkins are having conversations and planning activities to give our learners a developmentally appropriate meaning of Responsibility.
