September 2019

Posted on 09/10/2019
Dear HGS Families & Friends,

Welcome to September! We are delighted to have you with us for a year of learning and growing together! The first days of school have been full of many exciting things, including:
~ getting to know each other
~ forming classroom communities
~ learning what to expect and how to do things
(classroom and school routines, procedures, and expectations)
~ meeting new teachers, classmates, and friends
~ practicing safety drills
~ and SO much more!
No doubt your child has come home each day with lots to tell you and share about the day at school!

We enjoyed meeting many of you at Meet & Greet before school started, as well as at the PTO meeting on September 4th. It is wonderful to have such an involved, active, and caring school community! Thank you for joining us as we all work together to make this the very best school year yet!

Some dates to remember:
❖ September 6th - 20th - Gift Wrap Fundraiser
❖ September 6th - 20th - STAR assessments
❖ September 19th - Curriculum Night (6-8PM)
❖ September 19th, 20th, 23rd & 24th - Scholastic Book Fair
❖ September 20th - Picture Day! Say Cheese!
Important school reminders:
❖ When dropping off in the morning, please remember to keep the crosswalks clear so that the building can be safely accessed from the parking lot.
❖ If there is a change in your child’s normal dismissal, please make sure to send a note to your child’s teacher.
❖ As the weather gets chillier in the morning and students start to layer for the season, it’s a good idea to label clothing. Lost & Found fills up quickly this time of year with sweatshirts and light jackets. Having a name in the item helps to ensure it can be reunited with the owner. If you find that something is missing, please have your child look in Lost & Found, which is located in the cafeteria.

Each month we focus on a word that helps to develop character and good citizenship. We share quotes on the morning announcements, and lessons and discussions in classrooms incorporate the word so that students can really grasp how it applies to their lives. This month, our word is RESPONSIBILITY.

We look forward to making connections with you and your students this year that enable us to facilitate and educate to elevate!  Thank you for the trust you place in us each day.  HGS is a great place to be because of the wonderful people who are a part of it!

Please reach out at any time and for any reason.  This will be a great year!

Until next time,

Lois Connors, Principal                                               Sarah Muncey, Assistant Principal
