Dear Hills Garrison Families,

What an amazing school year we are having, and it’s only October.  When visiting classrooms, joy and learning are easily observed.  Classroom communities are vibrant learning families.  Some highlights from the first 35 days of school include:

  • The Outdoor Scholastic Book Fair sponsored by our PTO was a fantastic success. The weather was beautiful, and it was great to see families share the love of reading.
  • The Curriculum Night was well attended. It was great to see families in our building learning more about their child’s classroom experience.
  • The gift wrap fundraiser went smoothly. Due to the success of the fundraiser, we will be able to subsidize in-school field trips.
  • Gary has been redesigned, and soon every Hills Garrison student and staff member will get a t-shirt.

We will continue to stay happily busy with upcoming events, including:

  • Our Make a Difference Food Drive ends Friday, October 22.
  • The Parade of the Adorables is back. Thank you to AHS for leading our parade. This event is scheduled for Friday, October 29, weather permitting. More information to follow.
  • More Comfy Dress Days are ahead of us.
    • 10/20- Wear Orange, “Unity Day” to promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.
    • 10/22 – Wear your favorite sports team.
    • 10/28 – Red Ribbon Day – Wear Red to promote healthy living.
    • 10/29 – Halloween Costume Day
    • 11/5 – School Pride Day
    • 11/10 - Wear Red, White, and Blue for Veterans Day.
    • 11/12 – Flannel Day
    • 11/19 – Favorite Sweater or Sweatshirt Day.

Students have been working hard on i-Ready, and your child may have come home with a certificate.  Each student has received a punch card. When they pass a lesson on i-Ready, their teacher will punch a hole in their card. After 12 "punches," students turn in their cards to the office and get a new one. The next day, they are recognized during morning announcements and receive a certificate.  Thus far, students have been doing an excellent job.

As the daylight gets shorter, the temperatures get cooler, and leaves change color; we wish each of you quality time with those you love and good health.  Thank you for all you do in making Hills Garrison a special place.

Warm wishes,

William “Bill” McCarthy Principal – Mark Dangora, Assistant Principal
