October 2019

Dear HGS Families & Friends,

As the season changes and the leaves begin to fall, October heralds change here at school, too. Classroom communities have formed and students know what to expect and what is expected of them. Routines and procedures are in place that help everything to run smoothly so that maximum learning can take place. The beginning of the school year has been chock full of learning and activity. Highlights include:
❖ The Scholastic Book Fair sponsored by the PTO
❖ Curriculum Night - parents and families had the opportunity to meet teachers, visit classrooms, and hear about the learning in store for the year.
❖ Start With Hello! Week - we focused on building community, celebrating what we each bring to our school, and including all.
❖ Picture Day - we all said “cheese”!
❖ Meadow Farms fundraiser - thank you for your support
and so much more! We are grateful for a wonderful start of the school year. Your attention to things at home helped to make it a great start! Thank you!

Things to look forward to this month include:
❖ The middle of First Trimester on 10/10!
❖ Friday, 10/11 - Teacher Workshop Day (no school for students)
❖ Monday, 10/14 - Columbus Day (no school)
❖ 10/15 - 10/21 - Make a Difference Food Drive (more info to follow)
❖ 10/31 Halloween Parade & classroom celebrations

Our good citizenship word of the month is RESPECT. As we think and talk about respect at school, we remember that this includes respecting:
~ ourselves,
~ others,
~ our surroundings (home, school, community, Earth)
Classroom and guidance lessons, daily quotes, and lessons/activities with Mr. Plummer (YMCA) will focus on what respect means and looks like in each of these areas. We will also talk about how we show and earn respect.

As the days signal the change of seasons and the passing of time, we wish each of you shared moments to play, to connect, to read, and to have fun together. Thank you for being such an important part of our school community! It is our pleasure to be here for you!

Please feel free to reach out at any time, for any reason.

Until next time,

Lois Connors, Principal Sarah Muncey, Assistant Principal
