November 2020
Posted on 11/02/2020
Dear HGS Families & Friends,

November heralds change and reminds us to pause and appreciate all that is good in our lives. The shorter days and fluctuating temperatures shift our pursuits to indoor activities or ones that can be done by flashlight or while bundled up. We recognize and honor the brave men and women who have served our country in the Armed Forces. We exercise our right to vote, and we look for ways to connect with our loved ones to give thanks for all we have.

We are proud of our accomplishments in October! Highlights from HGS include:
❖ Red Ribbon Week - we learned about keeping our bodies healthy by making good choices
❖ Make A Difference Food Drive - we collected boxes and boxes of food and personal care items for Food Pantry. Teachers and staff donated over $660 to add to our school’s contribution!
❖ Our community read, When You are Brave, by Pat Zeitlow Miller helped us to focus on being brave when things are difficult. We celebrated our perseverance and strength.

November dates to remember include:
❖ November 3rd - Teacher Workshop Day/No School
❖ November 6th - Picture Retakes
❖ November 10th & 12th - Parent Teacher Conferences in the evening
❖ November 11th - Veterans Day/No School
❖ November 25th - 27th - Thanksgiving Break/No School

We are excited to recognize and honor our veterans during a school event - details to follow! We will also be building our Wall of Honor to honor veterans in our school community. The wall was a highlight of our Veterans Day activities last year and we look forward to watching it grow again this year. Please send completed “bricks” back to school as soon as possible - we will accept them throughout the month and will add them to the wall as they come in. The blank form was attached to the email that went home earlier so you can print as needed. If you have any questions or would like a paper copy sent home, please email smuncey@sau81.org.

Our November word of the month is GRATITUDE. As we work on practicing gratitude, we focus on all the good in our lives. We try to notice and appreciate the things that we might otherwise take for granted. Daily quotes and classroom lessons will help us all to develop this important quality.

We look forward to all this month offers, from the opportunity to meet many of you to discuss your child’s progress to showing our gratitude to those who have served. Happy November - we hope this month is a good one for you and your families.

Until next time,
