November 2019
Posted on 11/01/2019
Dear HGS Families & Friends,

November reminds us to be thankful for the many positive things in our lives. It brings shorter days, weather that forces us indoors to cozy up, and time for gatherings of families and friends. We celebrate veterans who have been willing to serve our country and protect our freedom. We gather together to reflect on all we have and give thanks. At school, parents and teachers meet to talk about progress, and our first trimester winds down.

October was a month of learning, growth, and blustery weather! Happenings at Hills included:
➢ Red Ribbon Week - we learned about healthy choices!
➢ Make a Difference Food Drive - lots of non-perishable items were donated to the food bank thanks to the generosity of our school community
➢ Halloween Celebrations - it may have rained, but it didn’t dampen our spirits! We showed off our spectacular, spooky, and spunky costumes in our classrooms and hallways.
➢ Community read of Strictly No Elephants. The important lesson here - everyone is welcome. Remember how important it is to be included and to include others.

As we turn the calendar to November, things to look forward to include:
➢ PTO meeting on November 6th at 6:30 PM
➢ HPD Toy Drive running through November 30th
➢ Parent Conferences (by appointment) either
○ November 7th 4:30 - 7:30 PM
○ November 12th 4:00 - 7:00 PM
➢ Picture Retakes - November 8th
➢ Veterans Day Assembly on November 8th
➢ Veterans Day (No School) on November 11th
➢ Notes and Treats for the Troops Collection - through November 12
➢ November 23rd - PTO Craft Fair & Market Day
➢ First Trimester ends on November 25th
➢ Thanksgiving Break - November 27 - 29

We are excited to recognize and honor the veterans in our lives with a special assembly on November 8th. You should have received a notice about our “Wall of Honor.” It will be wonderful to see the names and faces of family and friends who have served our country on our special board. Thank you for sharing them with us so that we can show our gratitude for their service. We can learn many things from their wonderful examples of courage, bravery, and selflessness!

Our word of the month in November is gratitude. We are grateful for each of you and the important part you play in our incredible school community.  We are thankful for our teachers and staff - they work diligently and tirelessly each day to do their very best for children. Their dedication is evident in the many ways they support, guide, encourage, and boost students each day.  They are the unsung heroes in the lives of our students.

Wishing you and your families and loved ones special moments together and wonderful memories.  As always, please reach out at any time.

Until next time,

Lois Connors, Principal                                                                   Sarah Muncey, Assistant Principal
