Dear Parents & Families,

There’s wonder in May - wonder in longer days and new buds bursting on trees, of birdsong and fresh air. There’s also the wonder of time - as in, where has the time gone, and how is it already May? As the calendar changes each month, it sometimes seems like we have all the time in the world to accomplish our goals and then, suddenly, it’s May, and we wonder how we will fit it all in (no worries - we always do, and we will this year, too!). Needless to say, our days will be packed full of activity as we learn together this month.

April was a busy month, and the vacation week at the end was the perfect opportunity to recharge before the final sprint! Highlights from April include:
❖ Reading, writing, and celebrating poetry
❖ Earth Day! 🌎
❖ School-wide recognition and appreciation of our military children and families with Purple Up! Fridays

In May, some things to note include:
❖ 5/3 - 5/7 National Teacher Appreciation Week - we celebrate, appreciate, and recognize ALL of the incredible staff at HGS and ALL they do to support our students each and every day!
❖ 5/5 PTO Meeting 6:30 PM
❖ 5/6 - 5/12 National Nurses Week - thank you, Nurse Kathy, for helping to keep us healthy & well. You have gone above & beyond this year!
❖ 5/9 Mother’s Day 🌷 - wishing a happy day to all of the moms, grandmothers, and important women in the lives of our HGS students & families! Thank YOU!
❖ NH SAS Testing - Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 participate in state assessments during May. Information regarding testing was sent home in April. If you have questions, please contact us.
❖ 5/31 Memorial Day - no school

Some Reminders:
❖ Recess - we go out whenever possible! It’s a good idea to layer clothing, apply sunscreen in the morning, and remember sturdy footwear for running and playing.
❖ Lost & Found - please remind your children to check for their belongings. Items left at the end of the school year will be donated.
❖ Refillable Water Bottles - our bottle filling stations are getting lots of use this year! Please send your child with a refillable water bottle each day. This is especially important as the weather warms up.
❖ Changes to Dismissal - a note indicating a change should be sent with your child in the morning. If a last minute change comes up, please make every attempt to contact the main office before 2:30 PM.

Our good citizenship word of the month is Fairness. When we talk about fairness at school, we focus on the idea that fair doesn’t mean everything is equal, but rather it means that everyone gets what they need to succeed.

The month of May is full of learning, and we are grateful for the many experiences we are fortunate to share with your children each day.

Until next time,

Sarah Muncey, Interim Principal
