Happy March

March, 2019

Dear Families & Friends,

Welcome back from Winter Break!  We hope that each of you was able to enjoy extra time with your children and families over the week.  March certainly came in like a lamb...white and fluffy with lots of snow, however with “Spring Forward” next weekend (3/10) and the first day of Spring shortly thereafter, we know that greener days are just around the bend.

February was a busy month here at HGS!  Highlights from the month include:

  • The Great Kindness Challenge
  • 100th Day of School (2/5)
  • HMS visit to Fifth Grade Students (2/12)
  • Day of Play (2/22) - special thanks to our Specialist Team for organizing this fun day, and to all of our teachers and staff for facilitating such an important, and FUN, day.

It was truly wonderful to observe the creativity and joy children exhibited during the Day of Play when given unstructured time to just play.  The problem solving, cooperation, and ingenuity was impressive, and we hope this inspired everyone to find time over break to play.

We have many things to look forward to in March, including:

  • Read Across America
  • PTO meeting (3/6) 6:30 PM
  • Scholastic Book Fair (3/11 - 3/13)
  • End of 2nd Trimester
  • We Love our Custodians Day! (3/15)
  • Report Cards (3/27)
  • PTO BINGO night (3/28)
  • No School (3/29) Teacher Workshop

In good citizenship this month, we focus again on responsibility.  Two-thirds of the school year have almost gone by, the days are getting longer, and the weather warmer, making this a perfect time to refresh our focus on what it means to be responsible.  Our daily quotes and classroom lessons emphasize the types of responsibility we have as individuals for ourselves, as students for our school performance, and as citizens of our country and of the world.

We thank you for sharing your children with us and entrusting us with their care and education each day.  We recognize the great responsibility we have and strive to make Hills Garrison the very best place for students to grow and learn!

Until next time,

Lois Connors, Principal                                               Sarah Muncey, Assistant Principal
