Dear Parents, Families, and Friends,

As the days continue to lengthen and the weather keeps us on our toes, we find ourselves with lots to learn and do here at HGS! Believe it or not, the 100th day of school occurs next week, and this week we celebrate National School Counselors’ Week. We also participate in The Great Kindness Challenge for the third year in a row with many exciting activities as we focus on spreading kindness at school and in our greater community. Some of the wonderful things associated with this event include:
❖ “I Choose to be KIND” photo station at lunches
❖ Classroom Door Decorating Contest - classes find ways to show what kindness means to them
❖ Kindness Grams - the Giving Gorillas will help spread kindness with these personal notes
❖ Keeping it Kind Fridays - spirit days to celebrate Kindness
➢ 2/5 Team up for Kindness (wear your favorite team jersey)
➢ 2/12 Shine Bright for Kindness (bright & sparkly)
➢ 2/19 Powered by Kindness (superhero attire)

But there’s a lot more than Kindness going on at Hills Garrison this month! Other noteworthy news includes:
❖ Recognition of Black History Month with lessons & activities in classrooms
❖ Wednesday, 2/3 - PTO Virtual Meeting 6:30 PM
❖ Wednesday, 2/3 - School Board Meeting 6:30 PM (Community Center)
❖ Friday, 2/12 - Valentine’s Day Celebrations in classrooms
❖ Thursday, 2/18 - Parent Teacher Conferences 4 - 7 PM
❖ 2/22 - 2/26 February Break (school resumes 3/1)

Some important reminders that help with day-to-day success at school:
❖ Remote Learning Days due to Weather - Teachers will communicate the expectations for their students on these days. All classrooms will offer Morning Meeting and several other opportunities for students to check in with their teacher. Please email your child’s teacher with questions and/or if your child is unable to log in remotely. There will be other learning activities that students can complete which will serve as attendance for the day.
❖ Winter weather can lead to condensation on masks. An extra mask for a change after recess will help keep faces dry and comfortable as we continue to practice safety for the health & well-being of all.
❖ Snow Gear - full snow gear (boots, snow pants, jacket, mittens/gloves) is required for students to play in the snow at recess. It’s helpful to send this in a separate bag from the backpack.

Our good citizenship word of the month is KINDNESS. Daily quotes, classroom lessons, and our participation in The Great Kindness Challenge are just some of the ways we model, teach, and encourage kindness.

We hope that each of you receives...and gives...kindness this month. Thank you for the privilege of guiding your children on their educational journeys. What we do together matters, each and every day.

Until next time,
