Welcome to third grade!

Math: We have spent time learning and using the distributive property to find area of rectangles and multiply. We have also looked at graphs, tables and comparing data. We will begin working with fractions in March. We continue to practice our math facts and using strategies we've learned to problem solve.

Science:  We are learning about force and motion. The students started off this science unit with a fun STEM activity of making roller coasters with Jeremy Griffith. We will be conducting experiments to look at and discuss the wonders of force and motion.

English Language Arts: We are working hard in leveled book groups to read books and write detailed responses to questions about the text. We have been learning about cause and effect, non-fiction text features, summarizing, and so much more.
In the months of January and February we have been learning about Black History and Civil Rights. We have been reading stories about Martin Luther King Jr., Jackie Robinson, Rosa Parks, and Harriet Tubman.

Writing: Before the holiday break students wrote narratives around the idea of being stuck in a snow globe. They have written different types of poems about winter, and are currently working hard on using the writing process to create opinion pieces. During the month of March we will write goals for the third trimester of the school year and write informational pieces.

Our specialist schedule rotates through an A,B,C, D day schedule. On days A and B our special is held in the morning right before recess, and on days C and D they are held during the last hour of the day. Below is the schedule we will follow.
Monday March 2 will be D day.
