Physical Education - Karyn Misenheimer

Ms. Misenheimer - Physical Education

Ms. Misenheimer

Physical Education class has come a long way since the days of kickball and dodge ball. Throughout the year students will participate in a variety of developmentally appropriate activities that will work to develop physically literate individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity. Classes are designed to provide maximum participation and a successful experience for all.

Skill acquisition is the focus in elementary school, as these fundamental skills form the building blocks for game play, physical activities, and fitness activity that follow in middle and high school (SHAPE, 2013).  All lessons and units are based on the Society of Health and Physical Educators National Standards and Grade Level Outcomes.  These standards are posted in the gymnasium and as the year progresses, students are asked to identify which standards they have worked on in class.

To ensure safe and successful participation please be sure to send your child to school with sneakers and clothing appropriate for active play on their PE day.

In Physical Education class I hope to foster the overall development of students- cognitive, physical, and social. My ultimate goal is to move our students toward physical literacy. To give them the skills, knowledge, and confidence to participate in lifelong physical activities.
