November 2018
give thanks

Welcome November –

The first two months have flown by, we have all been working so hard! For November our word of the month is gratitude. We will learn how to express our gratitude for the things we have in our life and show our appreciation. We will also be creating a bulletin board that shows “30 Days of Thankfulness” in the hallway outside of our classroom.

We continue to practice our math facts and are working on word problems. We use the “read, draw, write” practice to help students visualize what the word problem is asking us to solve. They READ the problem, DRAW a picture, and then WRITE the equation to solve the problem. Continue to practice math facts at home to help with fluency. In 4th grade fluency with multiplication will help when we start to work on division. 😊

In reading we continue to work on understanding story elements. We have also been working on sequencing the events in a story by a retell, what happens first, next, then, and last.

In our 7 habits we are starting to talk about habit #2 – Begin with the end in mind – know what you want before you do it. With this habit we will talk about planning ahead and setting goals, and about how consequences are affected by my actions.

November will feel like a short month, we have a few days off this month. There will be NO SCHOOL on November 12, in honor of Veteran’s Day and NO SCHOOL on November 21 – 23 in observance of Thanksgiving Break.

Other notable dates this month include: November 7th – PTO meeting in the library and Parent Conferences on November 5th (4 – 7) and November 15 (4:30 – 7:30).

I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy the time with family and friends!

Please let me know of any concerns/questions at any time during the school year!
