September Update

Dear Parents,

We are off to a wonderful start to the school year! Becoming an active member of our classroom community is key, and each student has done a marvelous job in working hard over the past three weeks!

As we enter week four of our educational journey, students are getting used to the routine, are gaining stamina with their assignments, and are sharing their ideas and knowledge with each other. A huge focus at the beginning of the year is having students learn to communicate with one another and to work both in small groups, large groups, and independently.

Academically, we are finishing our first unit of study in math, which focuses on place value, and we will be finishing our whole group novel, Frindle at the end of the week. Students have already written poems about themselves, and we write daily. In science, we have just started our investigation of why some stars appear brighter than others. In social studies, we are reviewing key map skills before moving on to our unit on exploration.

On Thursday, September 19th, we will be holding our annual Curriculum Night at Hills. During this time, I will be discussing what I teach, how I teach, and students’ responsibilities, especially during this pivotal year of preparing them for the middle school. I look forward to seeing you on Thursday. The first session begins at 6:00 P.M. and the second session begins at 6:45. I truly hope to see you upstairs in room 211.

Thank you, too, for a wonderful beginning to the school year!

 Smiles,
Mandy Laliberte
