January

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year! I hope that your vacation and time with your families was relaxing and enjoyable!

As we begin the month of January, students are beginning their new novel studies. Each novel has a reading calendar that paces the book over the next six weeks. I have given students a paper copy, and I have included an electronic copy on their Google Classroom page. Also uploaded to Google Classroom are the spelling lists for the next five or six weeks (depending on the novel), along with an uploaded copy of a spelling packet. This will eliminate any students losing the needed papers or students turning in packets late.

I am also planning on giving periodic grammar homework assignments on Google Classroom for students who have access at home. Paper copies will be given to those who do not have outside access to Google Classroom.

The winter months can be a bit crazy weather-wise, and I always tell students that if there is no school, they should still be reading in their novel to keep up with the pacing calendar. Also, regardless of a snow day during the week, their spelling packets are still due on the normal day, Friday! Now that we are in the new year, the expectations for responsibility have increased, and keeping up with work and the tasks given is key. Students have even written their own goals for the new year, and they will have a copy of their goals to show you in the coming days.  Preparations for getting students ready for the middle school are in full swing!

As always, your constant support in your child’s education is essential! We are having a wonderful school year, and it is a joy to watch the academic growth of my students!

Sincerely,
Mandy Laliberte
